On two different digital video cameras, I have had intermittent problems with playback being spoiled by about 8-10 fat stripes across the screen, occupying half of the total screen. The content of the video in the stripes appears to be a frozen still from earlier in the video tape; and in the "regular" part of the screen I can see the moving images of what I really wanted to record. The audio is not impacted.
I can't predict when this occurs, but once it starts it typically continues for many minutes, ruining the recording. When I import the video into iMovie, the stripes appear in both the iMovie content, and on the screen of the camera. I tried importing the same video into two different computers (Powerbook and iBook) and the stripes started at exactly the same place, implying that it has nothing to do with the computer but rather the camera or recording process. I realize this is MACnn.com (not a digital camera support group) but thought one of you may have dealt with this problem in the past. If so, two questions please:
a) What causes this to occur? (so I can stop it for the future(
b) Is there anyway to recover the full video from the existing videotape?
Thanks,
Bill
