I have placed an order for the new 1.83GHZ Intel MacBook. 2GB ram, 100 GB 7,200 RPM drive.
I am coming from a 1.33 17 inch, 2GB ram, 60GB 7,200 RPM drive.
Am I not going to see any modest gains in using Photoshop CS2 until they can re-work it past Rosetta?
What will it take to get PS CS2 ready to fully roll on the new chipset?
I am now wondering if I should not cancel the order and wait till a rev-b comes out along with a new 17, new form factor, new Photoshop?
This is a work thing so it is *Really* imprtant.

The damn rinkydink forum server ate my first response, so let me do this again...
Right now, it's hard to say what would be best, until someone does a side by side comparison of the new "MacBook" (sounds like something you get from McDonalds — uhg) and the current G4 Powerbook running PS.
If the "MacBook" is indeed 4-5 times faster than the current Powerbook like Steve Jobs claimed, then maybe it will be decent. But considering what may be sacrificed to run PS through Rosetta, it may not be any faster than the current Powerbooks right now. You could either flip a coin, or wait for someone to do some performance comparisons. It shouldn't take too long for some tests to come out.
As for me, I'm not investing in any Intel Macs until all (or most) of the software I use will run natively on it.

I'm with himself, I'm not throwing down for one of those until they get the kinks worked out. Heck, I still have a headache from switching over to OS X the day it came out. Big mistake.
I'd cancel the order if I were you.

I'm in a similar boat. I have to order a laptop soon. I would love a new MacBook, but I have to have Adobe CS, Final Cut, Aperture running at full speed. I can't wait months for them to come around. I think this has pushed me into looking at a cheaper used Powerbook as a stop-gap until all the apps are updated.

I will imagine that photoshop is Ass in terms of performance as the emulation doesn't run G4/G5 optimizations.

As long as it does not run slower than my current machine, then it will be a worthy upgrade for me.
17 1.33 GHZ, 2GB 167 MHZ ram, 64mb V-ram, 60 GB 7,200 RPM drive, 30 months old.
At some point, Adobe will release a native CS and it will fly. The other thing is that iView Media Pro is now better than ever on my machine with the new 3.0 version. I would hate to see it choke.
My machine is perfect except for two things:
1. I am filling up my drive faster these days with big Canon 5D files.
2. Raw converting is slower due to the same reason, Big Files!
This is a tough one, if these come out of the woodwork and do OK to good w/ adobe products on Rosetta, then I will get a OK sum for my current machine if I wait.
I guess I can always get it, put CS2 and Iview in it for a few hours with gloves on and if it sings, I am good to go, but if it chokes, back it goes or on eBay it is.
The screen is getting some good reviews from MW visitors, that is pretty huge since I work on location so much.
I think I still have a little time to think about it too, it is nice to have my name in the hat this soon though.
Decisions, decisions.....

No doubt it will be a spiffy machine. But remember, this is one of Apple's biggest changes and it's likely going to experience a glitch or twelve.

Try using Aperture when it is Native in March. It will probably beat Photoshop to being native.

I'm guessing that Adobe CS4 will be the first real Universal Binary. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't do a down and dirty quasi Universal Binary for CS3 so it sells more copies.
Photoshop 7 for OS X sold like crazy... and it was a rough port IMHO.
