Okay, I'm using Photoshop CS2. I know that when using the line tool you should be able to hold down the shift key and get either a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line.

However, when I hold down the shift key when using the line tool, it doesn't restrict it to horizontal, vertical, or diagonal lines. It's as if I'm not even holding it down. (Yes, my shift key does work)

Is there a setting hidden somewhere that could cause this not to work? (It isn't working in Illustrator either)

Works fine with my version of PS CS2

have you tried deleting these preference files from you Home folder?

Home>Library>Preferences

Adobe Photoshop CS2 Settings - folder
Adobe Photoshop CS2 Paths - File

also you could double check your Keyboard is on the right setting.
