I'm running PS CS1 on my beige G3/500 and while slow on large files it's fine for web based work. The OS you have installed, how much ram and what processor are all things to consider.

What OS are you running? I run Photoshop 6 on my G3 in Mac OS 9.22. That is the latest Photoshop release for system 9. Photoshop 7 runs on System X. The later releases are Photoshop CS and CS2 for Mac OS X 10.4.

I don't like running system X on a G3. Too darn slow. I have my G5 iMac for that.

Your info is wrong. Photoshop 7 runs on OS9. Panther runs fine on all three of my G3/500 Macs. You need all the ram yo can get tho.

Oops. I forgot Photoshop 7 was cross-OS for 9 or X. I still absolutely refuse to run any OS X system on a G3, Panther, Jaguar, or otherwise. We have several CSR workstations at my office that are G3's loaded with varirious versions of OS X. I refuse to work on any of them. It takes too darn long to get anything done. Personally, I prefer a minimum of a G4 for any OS X system with a minimum of 1 GB of RAM. All of our color workstations are dual-processor G5's running CS, CS2, Quark 6.5, Freehand, etc.

@ almaink - so how are you running OSX on that old beigebox? I have an oldie with 600 MB of RAM and pondered setting it up but it wouldn't take when I tried.

I've been running it for a long time since it was OS10.0.4. Now it's running Panther 10.3.9. Ya gotta get Xpostfacto to install it tho.
