I recently installed Acrobat 7 Pro and have yet to get Distiller to create a PDF from a PS file. Every time it attempts to do so it crashes when it hits 100%.

Details:

• Trying to create PDF from PS file created in Quark 6.5

• RAM and processor speed are not at issue – I'm bulked up on both

Thoughts?

Thx.

Does your PS file contain a corrupt font? Does it happen just with this PS file or all PS files from Quark?
I do not like those green links and spam.
I do not like them, Sam I am.

Macola:

Thx for the reply.

I fiddled with the settings in Quark and Distiller then built a new document with a system font and no images. I then created a PS file from that document and Distiller made a PDF without issue. I then went back to the document I wanted to make a PDF of and was able to create a perfect PDF from the PS file.

Very strange that it should start working with the same settings in place – I toggled them a bit but ultimately no changes.

Regardless, all is well now.

In the print window you have the option to create a pdf file - have you tried that?

Thx for the suggestion.

Yes, I used that method for earlier rounds of this project but the Quark-created PDFs are enormous and look like dung onscreen. For those reasons I prefer the Distiller route.

I'm not sure if your problem has been resolved. Question: Why are you creating a PS file?
Have you tried: File>Export>Layout as PDF ?

You may know this: for selecting CMYK or RGB, downsampling, compression etc., output can be modified by selecting "options" in the "Export as PDF" window.

Westbo:

Thx, yes, I tried that route as well. For some reason it went wonky on me.

I go the ps route because I prefer the way Distiller creates PDFs to the Quark export.

I've also dabbled with the Quark settings but they don't compare to the control of Distiller.

Understood. Did you have this problem with a previous version of Acrobat and assuming, QX 6.5?

Hmmm... one of life's anamolies- whatever. Now I'm curious. When I get a chance, I'll check over at the Quark Forums and perhaps the Acrobat Forum as well, to see if anyone there had a similar issue.

you'll need to dig but i'm not alone. found others w similar issues on both forums – adobe and quark. on one of them i also found mention of quark killing off ps file creation if it goes above 2gb. in my trials i determined this to be true – it will not create a ps file of that size or above. of course, quark doesn't tell you that.
