Ya know, I'm sure you mean no harm, but designers are typically not amused when you insinuate that their time, hard work, and talent have no value.

I'm sure everyone here went tens of thousands of dollars in debt with student loans , etc, so that they could drop everything and trace some redneck image for you to slap on your pickup truck.

I did not mean to insinuate anything... I was trying to type sheepishly because I know it's outrageous for someone to do that work for free, but I was just crossing my fingers.

ha ha...

I'm doing someone some work for free. Why?

because, and only because, I'm in high school, and I want stuff to toss in my college entrance portfolio.

But even with that... bad idea. Making art as a business is sticky enough when youre being paid. Even more messy when you're not.

Really it wouldnt be worth it; better just do as iREZ says--do it yourself.

I might try this approach with my landscaper.

If you have a larger version and Illustrator CS just place the image 'select' it and use the 'type' option in the 'trace' tool bar.

Right on

I see job postings all the time for web designers with 5 years experience, usability knowledge, scripting, flash, Photoshop expert etc etc.

$8/h

How ****ing insulting is that? I want to write these companies half the time and ask them where they get the nerve. I mean you can make more at a fast food restaurant.

Try this program. It should be able to make that into vector pretty dang easily. They have a free demo. There are stand alone and Illustrator plugin versions for both Classic, OS X, and Windows.

I bought their older version some time ago and it works very well.

I like the ones that start out with "This is a can't-miss idea. I just need someone to do the art. I can't pay you now, but I will cut you in on a percentage when it takes off."

Never tried it. How does it compare to Streamline?

When I was in school... I fell for that once... it sounded interesting (a beer bottle), but it ended up being a never ending project. It took me 4 months before I figured out it never would get beyond a pet project.

BUT I INVESTED HOURS!

Now, whenever I hear the word "just" or "only" (as in "I just need" or "it's only a book") I stop the person there or reverse it on them "and you are only going to write the book?"
