hey guys, I'm new to forum and have a rather odd question

I'm a senior graphic design student and my class is holding a sale to earn some cash where we sell handmade goods. we're making the advertisements, website, bla bla bla

now, my idea for a product is to take beer glasses and put some simply drawn figures on them...such as text, and lines.

now, so far i've drawn out what i want and traced over them in illustrator. i printed them on bristol board and heavyweight matte paper. i cut out the lines and text to make a sort of stencil

here's where i need some advice

what kind of paint should I use for the glasses? i've considered model paint and spray paint...I imagine the model paint will look great if painted with a very thin brush, as will spray paint, but I'm afraid that upon washing the paint will ruin anything within the vicinity of the glass

if anyone has ever done anythingl ike this before i'd LOVE some advice

as soon as the prototypes are done i'd be glad to post some pictures

regards
jonny j

Why not acid etch.

Much classier when done well... or perhaps done with a combination of paint and acid (acid first).

Regarding the original question, I use FOLKART Enamel Glass Paints (a brand name), but any glass paint should work.

thanks for the advice, it's much appreciated

I've tried using glass paint earlier...I don't believe it had enamel, but the results were less than satisfactory. my first attempt i used some matte paper and made a stencil...i couldn't make the stencil flush. so, I took some carbon paper, traced the design over some tape and tried cutting the tape directly off of the glass..unfortunately the paint made the tape bubble causing the paint to run

but, the idea of etching is really cool...I unfortunately do not have much experience in etching..i've done some ammount of work on etching on steel plates using various grounds...does this carry over to glass? I do have access to a printmaking studio...

i've done a little research and heard of some stuff called "etching cream"...i called my local art store and they do have some but the employees knew little about it.
