I want to split a scene so it looks like two rooms when it is filmed as one. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.

Use a solid color background. FCP can generate this no problem. Click the generators button(the button with the A) in the view window. I believe it is either in Matte or Other. I'm not in front of FCP to check.

Place that color BG on a new layer, and use the mask shape filter to create the line. Adjust the height and width of the mask to fit your needs.

Or you can just create a line in a graphics program with the correct resolution, dimensions, and an alpha channel to achieve the same thing.

How about adding a slug above the channel that has the room scene, then using the motion tab to scale the black slug to the middle of the scene. I would think you could size the slug to look like a black line between the two halves of the scene.

or just do some cropping so there is a black space between the two scenes...
if its from the same clip...over lap the clip...then crop...

Cropping is your best option here.

Video Track 3: Slug (cropped to make your black line)
Video Track 2: Video
Video Track 1: Video

You'll need to use Image & Wireframe mode to manipulate the clips in the canvas.
I gotta have more cowbell.
