I have an Illustrator booklet that uses two Pantone spot colours (only) but it always shows as CMYK. In colour option I only have the choice of CMYK or RGB.

Can you check the job before sending to output to check if it only outputs two spot colours?

When I check the pdf files - CMYK and the two spot colours show up!

In Illustrator 6 I could check in the document info - can't see that in CS2.

thanks

a spot color is made up of cmyk, just make sure the swatch youre using is a spot color by double clicking the swatch (in the swatch palette) and making sure it says spot color for the color type option and you should be fine.

Thanks

The spot colours I am using are solid Pantone inks, not produced from CMYK.

No CMYK colours appear in the document, as far as I can see.

I need to check this, previously the spot colours would be listed in the Document information but cannot see that in CS2. It only allows two colour modes CMYK or RGB.

In the swatches palette only the registration mark and the two spot colours appear (the spot colour is indicated by the grey circle in the box) but beside this appears the CMYK "Trivial Pursuit" coloured slices. I have used pictures which are monotone files using one of the single Pantone inks.

They Pantone colours show as separate colours in the output separations but this also shows plates for C - Cyan, M - Magenta, Y - Yellow and K- Black. That I don't want and should have nothing on them.

Seem to remember you could get a preview of the image that would appear on each plate - just can't remember where to see it now.

thanks again.

Managed to fix the problem - if anyone's interested, you have to 'link' the pictures files otherwise Illustrator converts them to the colour space in placing.

Once this is done you can check all is OK by saving the file as a pdf and in Acrobat under the 'print' - 'advanced' option check the separations.

Hope this helps someone.

ahhhhhh....i had a problem similar to this a few days ago too. had you mentioned that you were placing an image within the file, maybe that wouldve triggered something in this useless head of mine. i sometimes hate that link button... glad you figured it out.
