Anyone seen this guy's work? I hear he also works over at Apple Design..

Pretty damn good if he can fetch $200/hr!

You have to run your mouse over his pics to see the before and after... I'll never look at a magazine pic of a woman the same again!

Yeah... I never heard of him, but then he's prolly well known in Photoshop circles.. I got his name while doing a google search (I for got the actual wording)...

If you click on his "pod cast" link you get a nice freebee PS lesson.. I guess he's also an instructor..

Greg Apodaca isn't a common name, so I'm sure he's not hard to find... If I ever need some heavy duty work, I'll have to contact him.

wow technically good but you have to question the value of some of those beauty touch ups - they become so artifical as to be ludricous . To be fair to the guy he seems to be aware of that judging from his comments tho.

I'm more impressed with the composites/collages. Like the disney-esqe castle and the road sign Visa ad. Some of them though, like the palm pilot/mobile shot.... I just wonder how much it would have been neseccary if there weas someone earlier down the line, AD, photographer, stylist or whatever, who knew what they were doing.

that's ridiculous! I've never seen touching up taken that far... if you even want to call that thouching up!

I agree.
This sort of retouching lies outside the realm of photography. He is doing nothing more than converting photos into poster art.

Lets be honest... the guy serves a commercial purpose.. otherwise he's not going to get work.. What it boils down to is that there is a market for this kind of extreme re-touching. It's like in the case of Michael Jackson and plastic surgery.. it's not the surgeons fault, but Michael for his appearance..

This Greg appears (and you're right, as his comments tell) to find the whole thing funny.. But damn, I wish I could do 1/2 of that on my PS2..

There's your problem right there - photoshop doesn't run on games consoles...

i worked for a place that did retouching for a local ad agency. they'd get up to around $10-15k for one image depending on how much work was put into it.

that's everybody involved marking up charges. a freelance production person would probly charge 1/3 of that.

It's really nothing special. Quite normal in the magazine shopping world and easy work too. You really have to ask why some of his clients had such ugly models in the first place when they can get much better.

I worked on some shots for Vanity Fair last month with a friend and photographer. Really classy stuff.

I think the blond is a well known media figure.. and not just a "model" but don't ask me who.. My wife said she recognized her.

I recognise her, too. She’s an actor, I think. Can’t place her, though.

And she looks a hell of a lot better in the un-touched-up version of that picture. At least she looks like a human being in that one; after the ‘touch-up’, she looks like a horror version of a Barbie doll gone wrong.

Many times, you don't get to pick the subject... but they still need to be completely overhauled.

Both ugly models are over painted. It's something that is being done too much in the US media. Depends on the publication. So many have no class so there horror Barbies are inevitable.

I don't think either of the models are particularly "ugly" (the first model is quite attractive, in my opinion)... the shock of seeing the actual image compared to the touched up image just makes them seem that way. Real faces have flaws and blemishes, and will probably appear to be ugly next to a "perfect" face.
