When I was using CS2 at work until recently I was able to cut and paste vectors from illustrator to indesign, preserving its vector information. Now I'm using my laptop and CS1 exclusively I can't seem to do it - the vector pastes into indesign as an imbedded image (with spot colors and stuff but un-editable).

Is there a way to do this in CS1 or do I need to upgrade? The other thing that occured to me is that at work I used a windows box, but surely that wouldn't have anyting to do with it would it?

all help much appreciated!

no worries I figured this out myself - you have to change the copying format from PDF to AICB in the Illustrator preferences > File handling and Clipboard - if anyone's interested...

Or you can just go to File>Place, which is a better option really b/c it links the file so it can still be edited in it's original program. Just set display performance to high quality so it looks decent on your screen (if it bugs you).

Yeah, but sometimes you just want to copy a simple little shape or something. I've done it before, it's handy.

- my main reason for cutting and pasting directly is preserve the vector path so I can place an image inside it.
