Hey all,

I've been using a Logitech Wheel Mouse at home for a couple years, but its buttons are now on the fritz. So I'm looking for a replacement. I do a lot of web design and print design, so I'm constantly in photoshop, fireworks, quark, textwrangler, etc.

Anyone have any recommendations on a solid mouse that has these qualities:

Is good ergonomically
Isn't too expensive
Is optical
Has two buttons and a scroll wheel
Works well in Mac OS X

I'm also interested to hear about experiences with trackballs, like the Logitech TrackMan Wheel.

--Josh

P.S. To me, wireless/bluetooth isn't important. I just want something solid that will be good for my wrist/arm and not set me back too much.

I use a Wacom tablet that has the pen and a mouse w / scroll wheel and four buttons. It's a spiffy choice and, when I get cramps in my hand, I switch between them.

I've long since walked away from trackballs because they drove me nuts wen working with Photoshop. That said I LOVE the large ball Kensingtons they used to sell. Don't know if you can still get them.

I use an older 8x6 wacom tablet for most design work... and then a wireless logitech MX1000 for everything else (or when my cat decided to sleep on the tablet).

The MX1000 has been a very reliable mouse, much more than the many kensington mice I've had the 3 or 4 years before I picked it up. Despite it's claims of being super accurate, it can still be fooled by my desk, but it's a very rare thing.

So if you're right handed, I would recommend it.

I tried to win a wacom tablet in an auction earlier this year but failed. Do you guys with wacoms use the pen for regular stuff like working in Quark and Photoshop or interacting with OSX? Do you like it better for those sorts of uses than a mouse or a trackball?

try DIAMONDBACK or KRAIT from RAZER, either have 1600 dpi optical and three button.
PS: DIAMONDBACK are a little bit more expensive than KRAIT. www.razer.com

I use it for photoshop/illustration/indesign. For web and motion stuff I use the mouse. For 3D stuff I use both.

I've also used the tablet with general OSX stuff... usually when I've forgotten to charge the mouse; It doesn't work as well, but it's okay.
