im in the mood to buy some books...
so far on my list are the following:
The Big Book of Color In Design - David Carter
The Big Book of Typographics 3 & 4 (Typographics 3: Global Vision and Typographics 4: Analysis + Imagination = Communication) - Roger Walton
Typography: The Annual of the Type Directors Club - Gail Anderson
im lookin for books where i could learn by looking instead of reading if possible. i feel strong examples are a far better learning tool than reading "do's and dont's" but im open to anything that can play a positive role in my learning. if ya guys have any recommendations it'd be much appreciated, thanks.

Anyone have a good typography book. It's always an area that takes me the most time when being overly creative. Which fonts to select, etc.etc.

a mentor of mine recommended this amongst other type books...
this'll probably be the next type book i buy, but as of now Typographic Design: Form and Communication has served me well...very well, even though its rather dated.

in my opinion there's no magic bullet. you'd be best served to start buying type books that suit your fancy and building a library. you can't have too much inspiration.
mind you, i'm not saying to steal from books, but rather, learn from them. there's a big difference between the two.

i don't know that particular book.
even dated type / design books are full of lessons for youg designers -- what to do and what not to do.
it should also be noted that there are many, many, many entry level type books. if you're new to design you have more options. once you understand type you're better able to select the books that will serve your needs / desires.

I'd add 'Under the radar.' by Kirshenbaum and Bond to that list.

Interaction of Color by Josef Albers is a really good book. It's not a long book, but it is mostly reading (as opposed to visuals). It is also illustrated with black and white diagrams, strangely enough.
