BOINC = Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing.

BOINC is a free, open-source software for distributed computing. It was designed for volunteer computing, but also works well for desktop grid computing within organizations. It was developed out of the seti@home project to extend scientific distributed computing.

The BOINC project is based at the Space Sciences Laboratory at the University of California, Berkeley.
