I'm trying to find a forum that can help me with Illustrator 8. I'm trying to find out the best way to design a 'type' logo. I have hand drawn my logo which is made up of letters. Is Illustrator the best program to recreate this or should I try something like Typestyler. I would like to find out the best way to do this.

I suggest you log on to http://www.adobe.com/support/forum
There you will find an Illustrator user to user forum. Once you register (for free), you can post whatever tech or use question you have. Because you are using an older version of Illustrator, be sure to indicate in your posts that you are using AI8. Otherwise you'll most likely get answers that may apply newer tools and features not available in your version of AI.

Specifically to your project: Scan the hand drawn logo and save as a TIF. Start Illustrator and open a new document. "Place" the tif into the document. Create a new layer and using the pen tool, "trace" the TIF. Select fill and/or outline colors as desired. Once you are satisfied with the art, delete the "TIF" layer. Save the AI file as an EPS.

In general, yes, Illustrator is the best place to work on type-based art...especially a logo.
