Howdy folks,

I have been struggling with a Keystation 88es for a couple of weeks and I just can't get this iMac to recognize it. I have plugged it into a powered hub and also directly into the iMac's direct port. Now the Midi setup in OS X 10.4.6 shows a keyboard with a big red question mark on it and I cannot delete it.

I am trying to use it with garage band and Sibelius. I can't get the silly thing to be recognized by either... I know, its plug and play... but right now I believe I have my plug all tangled up with my play!

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thank you.

Get the latest driver here: http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.drivers

Install it and it should fix any problem.

It should work without any drivers whatsoever.

This may be a bit too obvious, so forgive me:

There is a little switch on the back marked "power" that needs to be switched differently when running off USB than when running off a power supply.

Have you played around with that and then re-connected the keyboard?

Class Compliant. No additonal drivers needed. Sure, it ought to be, but strangely, it isn't working.

Power switch... Yup. Tried that. Pulled cables in and out and in and out and in and out and in and out and, well, you get the idea. My desire to get this running exceeds my capacity to zero in on the reason why its not working (for now).

Somehow I think that part of the reason its not there yet is because I have a couple of icons in my midi setup that appear to be the keyboard, but I an unable to do anything with thenm. I'd really like to delete them, so if anyone knows how to blow them away with EXTREME prejudice, please let me know. It might be a boondoggle, but its the only obvious incorrect item I've been able to identify. I do have the keyboard connected to a powered USB hub, but I have also tried directly to the back of the iMac. No go.

I have an iMac G5 with an MBox and 2 wonderful BX5a's sitting in front of me with Sibeilus aching for this silly keyboard to work. This is not consistent with my usual experiences and I must admit I feel like I've just overlooked plugging it in and hitting the OI switch.

Thank you for any suggestions or input.

mbox? theres your problem, unhook it, and delete all your drivers for it and get another, more versitile audio interface that will play nice with everything. anything else will work fine. also, are you running your 88 through a usb hub? some of the time this will not power it fully and youll have to ether do hard connect into your imac or get the power "brick" and use external power setting instead of usb power setting. also, please, just for the sake of it, instal the bloody drivers will ya. no harm will come from this.

here is my general midi system setup:

theres a button that says test setup. click on your keystation icon than click on the test setup. if a beep occurs than we are on the right track. get back to us when you have done the above, than i, or we rather will help you the best we can
edit:
ill also send you a PM of how the sibelius midi setup should look

The M-Audio stuff is rock-solid in my experience.

i said that the mbox doesnt play nice, anything else will work fine, not meaning that maudio stuff sucks, but i can see how my wording was a lil towards what you thought

Thanks folks. I'll giv'r a go and let you know how it plays out. I suspected the Mbox might be an issue cause it was a bit problematic on install. It worked fine following that, but it appears it might just not want to play with others. I have a brick. I'll try that too. What do you think of uninstalling the Mbox, installing the 88es, and then re-installing the Mbox? Sometimes these things seem to take an inordinate amount of time to resolve.

I may get an opportunity to check it out tomorrow.

Thanks again to all!

BTW, does anyone know how to remove those icons from the midi setup that resist deletion?

Thanks.

no mbox period, scrap it, or sell it.

about the deletion, click on the icon until the background of it is dark, than just hit delete, BUT having the IAC Driver and the Network icons makes me feel reassured for some reason, and if it's any other icon, im pretty sure that the above applies to them as well
