Lightroom is Aperture done right, except for a few key things: Lightroom is free, easier to use, and only 11 megs.

Aperture is Apple's worst "pro" app yet. I've loved all the other pro apps, but found nothing special about Aperture. It can't do anything I can't do in Photoshop (apart from having a really cool zoom tool). Lightroom, on the other hand, will make any photo look amazing in a matter of a few easy steps (or hard ones, whatever your style)

It's only free because it's a beta. By the time it's released it will most likely have a price tag equivalent to Aperture.

I've tested LightRoom out a little bit and it seems like a decent app. Interface is a bit fugly (do we really need to have the name of the program yelled at us permanently?) but it is relatively quick and doesn't have the monstrous system requirements of Aperture.

The consensus is that Lightroom has better processing functionality, whereas Aperture has beter image file organization.
