I've designed my 1 page resume in quark and indesign. Both are identical and no pictures. Just pure text.

However when I saved it, the file sizes for both are different

Indesign = 953kb
Quark = 73kb

Why is that?

Different apps use different file formats and create different files. It's as simple as that.

Yeah I gathered that, but thats a huge difference in file sizes from a simple 1 page document

Yes it is. But I don't think anyone can explain it but the developers. There are probably other files that are larger in Quark.

In all likelihood, the file format is not optimized for empty documents.

OMG! Another 79,999 documents like that and you'll have filled up that 80GB hard drive!

Switch back, switch back! The sky is falling! Aaaaaarghhh!

Seriously though, what Chuckit said is almost certainly the case, I just made an empty A4 page in InDesign and it's 688K. I expect that it's the page structure and document settings that take a certain amount of space at the beginning of each file.

It's significant at the very small, but I wonder how two equally designed 24 page brochures of very similar design would be?

Who cares...

I will gladly trade some drive space for the benefits of using CS2 over Quark.
