My UK printercliams they tried to e-mail me some PDF proofs. They were 154mb! Am I out of the loop? Is this common or possible nowadays? Now they aretrying to use some software called VIO which was great for uploading, but I am not having success downloading... am I being jerked around? My client is chewing my head off due to delays and now this... arrrrrrgggghhhh...

depends what you are proofing.....154mb seems kind of large to me, but really depends what it is. Tell your printer to get a server and host the file on there for you....they should offer it anyway, as most of my printers need to use a server for receiving files.....or demand they send you a disk via messenger. emailing something that large sounds silly to me. liklihood is that your email server won't accept anything that big anyway.

get a new printer ;-)

It is a little difficult to messenger something across the Atlantic Ocean...

FYI, the 154mb is a pdf file of press proofs for a job they're printing...

the VIO software they set me up with for sending the job to them worked wonderfully... I dragged & dropped my files on the icon and they were transported across the ocean swiftly...

BUT they claim they are trying to e-mail both my earthlink & gmail accounts with no luck. Now they are trying to e-mail me the FTP site info and it ain't getting through...

Believe me, the next UK job I have will NOT be at the company...

T-

As you have mostly likely found out, many ISPs limit upload/download file sizes and storage. Also, many vendor FTP sites are often buggy and slow.

I recommend setting up your own FTP site for clients, printers or other vendors to access. Go Daddy ( www.godaddy.com ) and 1&1 ( http://order.1and1.com ) are two typical resources for setting up and hosting. Based on size, they offer numerous server rental packages at different prices. Plus you can register a domain name at the same time.

BTW, tonypicco.com and tpicco.com are available :-)

YouSendIt.com is a nice way to transfer files if you don't have an FTP server. Heck, even if you do have an FTP server YSI is good for clients who are not tech savvy.
