am currently trying to decied what to buy.
Portablity is nice
I have an Exteral Monitor
Budget: Less is More. But i can afford a MBP
Application: Heavy Video editing. And School work (In Art BA)
Must have by next week
campus resources: Avid/FCP/Motion/Shake Work Stations they are all G5's
I know the MacBook can run FCP just loses in render time, Is this like editing on a G5 when you have 4 complex filters or is this, I put a crossfade in and i have to render. because if i can run Soundtrack Pro and FCP very well i can use my small uses of motion and shake in a lab.
It is worth the extra 1000 on a student budget just to get the pro so that I have a bigger screen and a 256 vid card. Will final cut be upgrading to use a non intergated graphics chip?
Thanks a bunch.
Mike

Well the video card in the Macbook will hinder video work with pro applications.
Check out the refub section of apple's web site and see what deals they have.

Way to cross-post!
Well, check out my replies in the other threads. But basically MacBook is fine for FCP, as it doesn't make much use of the video card. Motion (and to some degree Shake) will benefit from dedicated GPU.

macbook pro with a matte screen for a better color accuracy would help in all video applications.
when i was in the deciding stage, i was consider the macbook, but the glossy screen and "extra saturation" would affect my color correction needs. plus the lack of expandibility affected it. expressslot allows me to get firewiree 800 for my macbook pro...
overall, if you can afford it, go for the macbook pro.

Seems like a bit of a moot point given that all computer displays are inherently inaccurate for video colour anyway.
I mean, of course the MBP is a better machine, but I wouldn't colour correct on any display I couldn't calibrate with colour bars (and preferably a 'scope).
