Im usually a web designer, but i started a new job which involves a small level of print, i know a bit about print design but not too much.

I am having this problem when i print a ugly light blue box appearing around my images, where it should have a transparent background , my background is blue on the flyer, i have tried saving as nearly every image format from photoshop and nothing has worked.

Please help

Are you doing the whole design in photoshop? Or just exporting the images, and then bringing them into Quark, inDesign, or something?

If you have a newer version of photoshop, under the "help" menu is a little wizard that walks you through exporting an image with a transparent background. Asks if it's for print or web. Usually works well.

Haven't used it in a while, but i think it either saves as a .tif file or asks if you want to save as .tif (tagged image format? if i recall correctly.)

Creates a large file, but shouldn't matter for print. Also make sure it's at least 300 dots per inch, instead of the webs usual 72 dpi.

hope this helps, cause I a have no idea where the blue would be coming from.

could you send a photo of the print output and a capture of what it should look like?

I would really need to know how you are creating this piece to make a judgment. What software? Where did you get the image? How are you incorporating it into your layout? Your whole workflow...especially since you are relatively new to print.

If you would like, we can work it out via email, as this could get a bit more involved that could be done in this forum.

programs im using are photoshop and illustrator, the images im using are high res screens from computer games, im basically cutting the image out of the background in photoshop, and placing it into illy flattening the transparency, and then when i go to print, a faded background appears around my image.
