Is there anyone who can tell me how to print an image, so that the single image is printed over lots of pages, as in like printing an A3 image on two pieces of A4 paper?

Illustrator allows for easy 'tiling' of images. You set your page size to the target of your sheets and then print the range containing your image. Look in the Document Setup and Page setup dialogs for where to make your setting changes.

Depending on the file you want to print you can simply place it in illustrator.
