Up until recently I used InDesign only on a Mac, but I am cyrrently doing on-premises freelance at a place that only uses PCs... ok... so on the PC version of InDesign, in the Pages Palette, the single (non-spread type) pages are displayed like this:
(pretend the bullets are pages with folio numbers underneath, ok?))

But on the Mac they only seem to display like this:

I certainly find the previous display far more accesable than the Mac version.

Is there a way to switch the display on my Mac? I poked around Preferences but didn't find anything....

In the Pages Palette, click on the little triangle in the upper left corner. Choose "Palette Options..." and set up your pages how you like em. I like em "Small" and "Horizontal" like your first layout (with Masters on top).

A warning though, at least on my version, sometimes the palette reverts to the default setting. So you may see it go back to the old way. You just have to set it up again.
