As covered in an earlier thread, CS 3 is expensive. Even as an upgrade.

After much consideration and snooping I discovered you can upgrade to the Design Premium version from a copy of CS 1 Standard. Lucky me found one such copy on an auction website for just over $300. Add the $599 CS 3 upgrade price to that and I just saved over $600. Not to mention I can sell off my ala carte copies of other Adobe design apps (PShop CS 2, Ill CS 2, ID CS 2, Acrobat 7...).

Ha, $1,599 to upgrade? I'm not paying no stinking $1,599 to upgrade.

$1,599 is the cost of the full package, not the upgrade. Upgrade is $600.

$599 is the price for upgrading to CS 3 Design Premium from an earlier Creative Suite / Macromedia Studio. If you upgrade from Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign or Flash as ala carte products the price is $1,599.

I have the educational CS 1(and1.3), CS2, MM studio packages. I haven't looked into the CS3 upgrade paths very much yet. Am I stuck buying the new package at full-price or is there an upgrade path you might have seen?

If you still have access to edu discount, it is cheaper to get new than upgrade.

Does anyone know if there is still a difference in the educational version and the full? In 2001 I bought the educational version of the Pre-CS1 suite ( Design Suite? ) and I was often asked for School ID when printing. I was told that the software produced a warning to the printers that prompted their requesting ID. I am now nearing the end of my schooling and would like to upgrade to CS3, but If I buy it from the Academic SuperStore or anywhere for that matter am I going to have a problem with any of the software after I graduate?

I've never been asked for the school id when printing, saving, etc.
