What you need is a production administrator.

(Basically an over-glorified secretary)
Graphics designers should not be concerned with such things!
But seriously, if it's a one man by yourself thing, then yeah that omni app (can't remember what it' called now either) works well.
But I was serious about companies requiring designers to do more than just design work being kinda lame. Some have the mentality of "You can use a computer, so you can fix anything, or know how to use any program"
A loooong time ago I worked for a graphics house that was like this. He'd spend tons of money on inane things, and making sure he had the most UP TO DATE sofware even if we didn't need it. But would NEVER hire someone to do the admin work of keeping track of jobs etc. He also after working there for a month or so would ask you to come in on the weekends and work for nothing "For the benefit of everyone"
He eventually hired someone for tons of money to see why he was losing money instead of gaining it. Shortly after I looked elsewhere for a job. And he closed down.
