hello design and web literate macnn glitterati. I've* been developing this site for my side business, but it wasn't working in a sales way so I've been reskinning it. I'd be interested in any comments re initial site/new site, improvement?

old site
Wonderwalls - Turn pictures into wallpaper murals with wonderwalls.

new site
http://sandbox.mywonderwall.co.uk (log on using wonderwalls and thunderm00)

all input is good imput.

*well I say I, I design and my good friend tom provides the code expertise.
Thanks very much

1. Whilst the new design definitely looks friendlier and less sterile, I'm sort of missing the ‘wonderwall’ explanation. Since the new site tells you the prices right away, there's little chance to contemplate why you might want one.

2. I'm not sure what I think about the ‘how to order’ graphic being on the right. Personally, I'd prefer it being on the left or across the top, it seems more natural to me.

3. Your top banner is being filtered out by Privoxy's ad block, which suggests that it's either the wrong size, or unfortunately named.

  1. New site is better than old site.
  2. You’ve got encoding issues—“Kellie Ström” appears as “Kellie Strøm”.
  3. The menu points with different-coloured rounded blobs for backgrounds are not working. The design in general is kind of understated elegant-ish, but these blobs just look like something from a 1998 wannabe-cutting-edge site.
  4. The ‘how to order’ graphic is a good idea, but I agree with red rocket that it looks wrong (somehow ‘askew’) way over there on the right. Also, that washed-out salmon-pink-red background colour is wrong, wrong, wrong! The darker red used for the backgrounds in the small boxes inside the graphic is quite okay, but if you’re keeping the site itself in more subdued greyish tones (a good idea, it makes the pictures of these wonderwall thingies stand out more), do the same with this graphic. Whatever you do, get rid of that horrid chloride salmon!
  5. I also agree with red rocket that you need to have some kind of introduction—I’ve been looking around a bit and I still don’t get exactly what a wonderwall is (apart from an Oasis song and a German pop group). “Individually printed wallpaper murals” doesn’t explain much.
  6. I love the choice of Baskerville as the header font (at least I assume that’s what it is—you have (or perhaps rather Tom has) hidden the CSS file, so I couldn’t check; but the headings seem to be the same as the banner at the top, and that’s Baskerville).
