"Art & Graphic Design" seems about the closest topic for this so here goes...

Our school colors are maroon and white. So you can imagine we go through a LOT of magenta ink. We have several CD printers (100+ disc models, not individual consumer models) and print 400-500 prints a week.

Does anyone know of a CD printer that uses individual ink cartridges instead of "tri-color and black"? We can easily burn through the magenta tank in a tri-color cartridge and have 75-90% yellow and cyan left in the cartridge. We have to toss the whole cartridge and use a new one.

I don't know any specific CD printers that have individual inks, but some of the more expensive inkjet printers have CD printing units and tend to use individual ink cartridges. Having said that, I've yet to manage to get the CD printing unit for my Canon to print a single CD yet, so it may be worth testing the printer in the shop befoer actually parting with any money.

I had a similar problem and never did find a commercial one that had individual tanks.

I'd suggest having some CD-Rs screened by a professional printer with your logo on it in just the colors you want, with some area for text. Then just use black and print the text in.
