OK... here's the weird deal...
Remember my earlier post about the client who wanted me to set up a newsletter template in Word or Acrobat?
Here's how it's playing out:
He decided to buy himself Quark 7 (it is on its way to him as I type).
He had me set up a template for a 32 page B&W 8.5 x 11 newsletter.
I am using Quark 6.5 on a Mac, he will be using Quark 7 on a PC.
(I cannot afford an upgrade at the moment.)
He knows nothing about Quark.
I have made the newsletter template as simple and basic as possible (yet elegant and attractive, if I do say so myself.) I used only two font families (Kabel & Times). He will be buying them for his computer too. I have also created a variety of master pages and a few library items, so he has the basic design elements in accessible forms.
He expects to create the first newsletter while on the road with his PC laptop, using instructions I will create and e-mail him. Then he will export them as PDFs to e-mail to the printing press.
This man is intelligent and cooperative, so this insanity is potentially feasible, though probably with an awkward learning curve.
My immediate concern: since I know very little about Quark on PC, where does he put the fonts once he buys them, so he can access them for his Quark? Please suggest the simplest solution.
Also, if this blows up in his face on his first attempt, and I have to take over, is there a way in Quark 7 to save it back to 6.5 so I can leap into the production fray?

I recommend you (and your client) log-on the Quark Fonts (Windows) forum at: Quark :: View Forum - QuarkXPress: Fonts (Windows) There, PC Quark users will most certainly provide answers you're looking for regarding font placement, etc.
As soon as you can afford to, upgrade to QX7.3. If you and your client are planning to send files back and forth, you will not be able to open anything he sends unless he exports the file as a 6.5 QXP. Also, if he is using any of the features unique to v7 (i.e, transparency, drop shadows, etc.) they will not work properly in v6.5. So, stress to him not to get gimmicky with the goodies.
Font usage... I encourage using OpenType (OTF) vs postscript type 1, as it is cross-platform compatible. Assuming your client correctly installs them, he will be able to use the OTF fonts you collect.
Art, Images... be sure to save any placed art (EPS etc) in a TIF (vs. Macintosh) format.
And most importantly, be sure any file you collect and send does have its correct extension.
Good luck... I'll light some candles for you.

Ideally, he will keep fancy design tricks to zero... so the back-save doesn't worry me too much. After all, the template was designed in 6.5... (i am a dreamer, aren't i?)
We shall see what happens. I will upgrade as soon as I can, but I have hit a loooong stretch of little to no work... things are picking up at the moment, though...
