I know I ought to know this... but I forgot...

How do I get a tilda on top of the letter n so I can typeset a spanish word?

How do I get an accent on an e so I set cafe properly?

Go to Preferences, and select International --> Input methods, and tick the character picker.
A flag will appear on your toolbar, and you can open the character picker.

um... what program are you talking about?

I shoulda mentioned, I'm using Quark 6.5...

He's talking about System Preferences — it's a system-wide thing.

But you don't need to do that. To get an ñ, you can just type option-N (for the tilde) and then N again (for the actual letter). Similarly, for é, you type option-E and then E.

The character palette peeb mentioned will let you select pretty much any character in the world, though.
