I am using Quark 6.5.2 on an iMac running OS 10.3.9

Every month a world traveling client sends me a 40 page newsletter to "clean up" and have printed for him & his organization. He lays it out crudely in Quark 7 and saves it back to 6, zips it and e-mails it to me. This has worked smoothly for almost a year now... but this month, when I unzipped it, it tells me it can only be opened by Quark Passport.

I have asked him to re-save & re-send, but... what? How? Huh?

If it comes back still messed up, I have a friend with Passport that can open and save it for me... but what a pain.

Yes, I know I should upgrade. I can't afford to upgeade Quark & InDeisgn & Word & OS and and and and...

What options do I have, if any?

Most likely just a corrupt Quark file save. I try not to Zip files I'm sending over the net tho, dmg works better. Also tell him to do a collect for output, instead of just copying the file.

T,

This happens when a Quark 7 doc is "exported" as a version 6 "project" and "multiple languages" format has been selected.

To ensure compatibility:
1. Have your client export ( File>Export>Layouts as Project ).
2. In the "Export Layout as Project" window, select Version: 6, Type: Project, Format: Single Language.
3. As a safety measure, add the .qxp extension to the file
4. Hit "Export"

I usually add "v6" to the file to ID that it is an older version.

Hope this helps.
