I'm working on a multimedia project which will require me to output the video to a projector (fullscreen). Since I will need a place for the control and editing windows, I am wondering if the projector can serve as a secondary monitor. Is the video output port on the PowerBook only able to mirror what's onscreen or can it be used as a secondary display?

it can do either. If you turn off Mirroring, or close the lid of the 'book and then wake it (with a usb keyboard, probably), you can drive an external monitor up to 1600x1200 pixels
