I'm sure this has been answered already at sometime in this forum, so sorry ahead of time.

Is a 5400 rpm FW HD good/ fast enough for storing DV movies? I just wanted to make sure before I sunk cash in it. TIA

Not really for DV editing.
Get 7200 at least, and get ATA/66 (ATA/100 compliant but will default to ATA/66 in any of the latest Macs) as the preffered interface...
Don't bother dishing out the extra for SCSI...
FireWire HD's aren't native. Just have an IDE/FireWire bridge

Thanks, Cipher. You're a help as usual. I guess I'll have to find some other HD. . .

If I may recommend one, the IBM 75GXP Deskstars are simply the best you can get.
The fastest, and the most reliable...
They range in size from 20 gigs to 75 gigs, and are really awesome drives

The Maxtor Diamond Max Plus 7200 rpm 40 G drive works fine for DV editing in my beige G3/466...
