What file type are source media files for FCE? I need to recover some files from reformatted drives. I have the project files but lost the original footage. What type of files am I looking for, .dv? or what.

I'm guessing you mean Final Cut Express? If it's anything like Final Cut Pro, footage can be .mov, .mp4, etc.
