I'm planning to buy a G4 733 w/ SuperDrive so I can create my projects on DVD, right now people charge me the price of a G4 to put 20 minutes of DV into DVD and make 10 copies of the disc!!! So, I'm wandering, if I use my DV camera to edit my work, than burn my own DVD will be much cheaper, but, sometimes I need the DVD to play in a loop, and the companies that make this DVD work for me, used to charge me extra to make a "loopable" DVD... can I do this with the G4 and iDVD? Or even using DVD Studio Pro...
How is the compatibilitie if I send my DVD to Europe or South America?!

If your movies are built for NTSC, you need to convert them to PAL before burning a DVD to export to Europe. For South America... I don't know.

To play in a loop, check for DVD Studio. It must be able to do so.

And you MUST check the DVD players since not all of them recognise the DVDs burned on the G4.

Ok, so the deal with the "areas" 1, 2, 3, etc. is only the video code?! NTSC, Pal-M,N,G, SECAM... that's good news...
Have anyone heard about those loop things for DVDs?! Does anyone tried?!

Unfortunately, you are making a confusion between "areas" and video code. in Europe, the video code is PAL (and SECAM for France who couldn't make like the others) and NTSC for USA. It means 25 fps at 720*576 pixels in Europe and 30 fps at 640*480 pixels for the USA (AC is 50 Hz in Europe and 60 Hz in the USA and it gives the pace for the frames per second - fps).

"Areas" is a way to protect the DVD from being sold in Europe before the movies has quit the cinemas. i.e. the movies appears in area 1 when it's still playing in the cinemas in Europe and the area 2 are sold later in Europe...

Does this mean that I will have trouble sending DVDs with home video footage from the U.S. to my parents in Germany? Apart from the different aspect ratios, will they be able to play on their region-2 DVD players discs that I burned on my region-1 G4/733?

Also, is there a unified aspect ratio that will allow me to have them view my video without cropping or distortion?

As far as looping goes...

...All DVD players are required to have an "A-B Repeat" feature. It's one of those buttons on your remote that you never touch. Basically, it allows you to set a loop on any dvd. So if the software on the DVD doesn't say to loop it cuz you wanted to save some money, you can still do it manually.

I doubt iDVD will allow you to set up loops, but you definately should be able to with DVD Studio Pro.

That's what I was thinking... there is a loop control in my DVD player but... not all DVDs work with it... any ideas why!?
