I've been wondering how I can tag photos I've taken using transparent tag like the kind that professional wire services have been using lately. I don't have PhotoShop - I use Graphic Converter. Can anyone help me? Alternately, how could I go about removing such a tag?

Thanks!
Emile

Are you referring to the copyrght info that is embedded into the tag? Theres a special plug in from Digimarc that does that. Digimarc has the plug in and subscription service. The cheapest package is 79 bucks for one year of service. Thats including the service that searches web pages for your copyrighted images.

Hope that helps

It's not the copyright info per se - just an identifier of the photographer. I'd like to be able to do that myself using transparent text so I can identify without interfering with the image.

On the other hand, some of these wire services put the transparent image right on a person's face which is obnoxious. And I know some people know how to remove those and I'd like to know how myself.

Thanks for getting back to me.

you'd need photoshop, or similar program that supports layers.

I'm using Graphic Converter - how would I be able to tell if it supports layers?

does it have a layers palette? does it have a feature labelled "layers" ? Or go read graphic converters FAQ.

And the only way to remove the tag from other people's stuff, unless you're the author, is to rubber stamp/color over it.

Believe me, if it had been that simple, I wouldn't have asked on the board. The manual for Graphic Converter won't be available until the end of the month. So I've had to wing it thus far.

What about just using the Text tool in GC? You should post an example of what you want to do, it would help.

I've used the text tool, but I can't figure out how to make a transparent text icon that I could use as a tag. Or alternately, how to remove them (for my personal enjoyment, not to take credit for someone else's work).

But here's a good example:

or if that doesn't work, here's the direct link: http://www.geocities.com/noahtaylor.geo/lancerare2.html

Thanks,
Emile

I don't know why anyone uses Geocities, Tripod, or Angelfire (although I do use Angelfire for files, 50 MB! but not images) for images. Just get a mac.com address. If it wasn't already obvious, the image doesn't work either way.

Anyways, I'm assuming you are referring to a textural watermark?... If so, then Graphic Converter does *not* have layer support, nor do I think it has transparent text support. You can always get Adobe Photoshop LE.

Because Geocities is free, it's where I've always been (to the tune of 4 years) and there's always going to be a problem with someone's domain somewhere sometime.

And mac.com suddenly decided to charge for it's service - the charges just started to appear in my bank statement for no reason, so I found out what they were for and cancelled it.

I finally got the links to work - is that what you mean?

Oh, too bad since GC was within my price range. Okay, thanks.

Emile
