So I'm creating some artwork for a set of icons to accompany an application, but I'm not really sure how to obtain that quasi-realistic, awesome aqua look that IconFactory and Mac OS X application icons have.

Does anyone have some ideas or suggestions for how to add highlights, shadows and using gradients (particularly gradient meshes in Illustrator)? How do you do it?

Thanks in advance

How did it come to this? Goodbye PowerPC. | sensory output

iconfactory sells a nifty filter for photoshop. Never tried it, but I bet it'd be useful...
