The latest version of Adobe Streamline is 4.0, and it is very old. Has Adobe given up on this program or are they going to come out with a nice Carbon version soon? It needs to have some real time sort of adjustments so you can really see what you're doing. Are there any other programs that turn regular images into vector art? Preferably ones that run in X?

It was probably dropped because the version that was available at the time would usually convert any scanned image into an open path consisting of over 5,000 separate points, which might have looked good on screen, but taken an hour or two to print at your service bureau.

I think it works well... you do need to fiddle around with the settings to get what you want, but what do you want... I think it should be included with Illustrator...

i think streamline pros know how to get the point total down...(whether in streamline or in iluustrator, or prepping the image before brining it to streamline)

and i think hardcore stramline users can recognize what it can be used and what it can't be used for...because it definately has limitations but can be used effectively if you know how

There's no denying your logic as far as professional people are concerned.

However (and this is years ago), one of my clients once told me that he would no longer need my services because he had just been to a demo where his hand-drawn layout could be scanned, and then text and pictures imported, to produce the final page.

Needless to say, I haven't spoken to him in years, but I just checked the white and yellow pages and he's gone missing.

There's still something to be said for common sense after all.

little late on the response here. You can convert raster artwork into vector in Freehand too, and you can use it in OS X. I think for what it does, Streamline is a good program, but agree that it should be an included feature in Illustrator.
