the vector graphics and text handling is 500 millions times better for mock-ups for the web....

simply brilliant, i can't belive this isn't the standard. it's gotta be because imageready comes with photoshop, otherwise...fireworks is a really great program

It is nice for what it does. The only difficulty is its not intuitive for those who have a background in photoshop and printed media (although that's the case for most online media compared with print).

There is a wierd sense about it as counterintuitive for those who have used photoshop forever.

But in some ways, Adobe tried a product very similar to fireworks and decided to drop it (ImageStyler). I think they decided to put more effort into their competing product for web layout (Golive versus Macromedia Dreamweaver).

I recommend Fireworks for those who bought the Dreamweaver bundle and didn't already have photoshop or don't have a background in graphics for print.

And for that reason, I guess one cause for not catching on as much is for repurposing of content. If I can take one PSD file with layering and effects and use it for print, for the web and multimedia all from the same app (then I'm apt to use this application).

I'm pretty comfortable with either, at work fireworks is what we use, but for contract stuff (i.e. when I have a choice) I'll take imageready any day. "jumping" back and forth between photoshop is a great thing, I also prefer its batch processing tools (which whup up on fireworks any day of the week), and its support for adobe program file types (i.e. illustrator v. whatever) rawks. but I have a preference for adobe as opposed to MM so, maybe that makes me biased.
