Ok, I have access to lots of nice printers such as, a the HP DesignJet 750, Océ 700C, TekTronix 750, and a HP Business Inkjet 2250, but all my proofs come out looking crap because of bad colour matching.

I think the main problem is that I am using a PowerBook's LCD and I am assuming that this doesn't really have a very wide gamut. But, I thought this is what ColorSync was designed to compensate for?

I have downloading the various ICC profiles from the respective websites but other than selecting the respective profiles in the ColorSync System Preferences, I don't know how else to use ColorSync.

Does anyone know of a good practical idiots guide to setting up ColorSync and color matching, with examples and a method of testing the results.

Any help would be appreciated,
m@

Only so much magic colorsync and monitor calibration (monitors control panel) will do. A) LCD's suck for color matching, and B) well only so much monitors can reproduce. You really need to print out alot until you learn how to mentally compensate. Also make sure that in Pshop/Illustrator/Whatever you are using proper color calibration. most (all?) adobe apps have their own color matching systems. Sending things out to get printed and getting expected results is a whole other ballgame.
