Ok, I like most of it. Very "Low-Fat" as far as graphical and Flash elements go (that's a good thing...I hate half meg Flash bloat sites). The colors and design are pleasing to the eye.
One thing, on the portfolio section...any way you could incorporate the portfolio links into the flash file there (below the message). I didn't realize I had to scroll...just that I guess. Your portfolio will hopefully be added with more work too...I hope.
Good start!

But, 2 complaints
The top colored "banner" which fades from Light Blue, to Brownish, to Dark Blue to a Greyish Black (Depending on section). Why the Brown? It looks a little out of place, a blue color between the news section and the archive section would be a little more seemless.
The icons that you use in the News, Archive, Photos and Contact section could be better. They look good for a retro site circa 1988, but with a clean layout like yours, the sharp pixels hurt the eyes!
Other than that, I truely liked the layout

They laughed at my Mac, it had no CLI. They laughed at Linux, it had no GUI. I installed MacOS X, and shut them up.

>>General observations from a non-designer<<
I like the clean layout, very effective.
I find it slightly annoying that there is no white space above the main graphics on the portfolio page. I keep wanting to scroll up more. There is a little on the main page which is better looking.
The box that says "click" on the main portfolio page actually links to something whereas the same box within the portfolio doesnt. You have to click the image of the item being displayed next to it. Could be just as easy -I assume- to make it link to the same thing the picture next to it does.
That is all. Oh, I like the photos page. The pictures are very interesting.
