So like two months ago we finally upgraded to 6.0. Now they release 7.0. WTF? Arggg!!! I love new software and all the pluses and negatives it brings. So....

What's the scoop? Anyone try 7.0 and just LOVE it or HATE it?

Anyone running it on a mac that has been upgraded to OS X? What's the performance like? I'm just wondering what it might be like on my work machine, which is NOT OS X...

Thanks,
Eric Henao

I'm running Adobe Photoshop 7 on Mac OS X and I'm really liking it. It does seem a bit slow though, so be prepared. As for new features, the Heal tool is awesome and the new brush options are wonderful.

Well, take this for what it is. I basically design small (10 page or less) web sites and do general print design. For the longest time I was using Illustrator 8, Quark 4.1 and Photoshop 5.5. Everything was PERFECT. Then Illustrator 9 came out, and it wasn't nearly as "snappy" as version 8. I know that a newer version requires more "umph, but Illustrator 10 is even slower then 9 (I was sad to see such a high performance). Quark 5 is out, but who is going to upgrade until they have to? I'm NEVER going to use Quark to design web sites, I can already produce high quality PDF's... and it's not OSX native (so I'm going to pass). Now here comes Photoshop 7. I'm excited because I can do more in OSX, but must still wait and see how it performs. I hope and pray it's a better port then Illustrator.

I love OS X (even with all of it's quarks)... I have never had an application take down the system (fingers crossed) Apple really seems to be listening to the developers on many of the major topics/issues. I can't wait to see what they have in store for us in 10.2.

Thats a good idea, from what I've heard, the four people in the world who have upgraded to Quark 5 have been living in hell with it. I'm eager to try out pshop 7 myself, but damned if I'm not going to wait for the demo and try it out before I go and drop the dimes.[/LIST]

OK, I tested Photoshop 7 last night using OS 10.1.4 on a new QS 733 system. It wasn't blazing fast, but it was usable. I tossed a bunch of large images at it, and it did well. It's so nice to see the move to OSX. I hope 10.2 speeds up the system in a big way, but I'm happy for now...

I would give it a 8.0 ouf to 10 so far, but I'm not a big Photoshop freak, I usually use it for photo editing, and not much more.

I got it yesterday, so I haven't dug too deep, but ti seems like a worthwhile, upgrade to me. The file browser looks useful, and little things have been added everywhere that seem to make sense, like the master diameter slider in th brushes pallette.

It hasn't crashed on me yet, and I actually produced a paying job and sent it out for film this morning. 25 seconds to launch, though, on a G4 450.
I think it's good in OS X-- not crashy like GoLive, or slow, like Illustrator. Stable and responsive, though hopefully 10.2 will give it a kick in the pants.

I mainly want the hell out of Classic, so I'm tyring to be upbeat about it, but I think I'm going to like it.

After working with it a big more, it seems rather good. Naturally I will need to get back to this forum in a month or so. Time will test it more then anything...

Interesting...

This is a related topic, so I have added it here. Hope you don'd mind Eric_Henao!

I'm still mostly in the land of OS9 with a chance to move to OSX full-time later. The question is:

I use PS 5.0 and have the chance to upgrade to PS6.01 at a reduced price (Resellers selling on PS6 upgrade cheaply now)
BUT
should I go a little be more and splash out on PS7? Is it worth it?
Will I gain any new useful feature with PS7 over PS6

Thanks for any advice or insight on this one.

If you are full time OS9, and never boot into OS X, it might be worth it. Depends upon if you need some of the new features. I would buy the PS 7 upgrade if it were me. It is great under OS X.
