I've worked with other peoples logos extensively in Pre-Press and Production graphics. That said I've seen tons of logos from JCPenney, Merck, Wyeth, Estee Lauder, Clinique, Clark O'Niell, (the list just goes on and on). I've never designed anything professionally, and I also can't really pin-point one specific logo which I'd consider a favorite.

Again I've seen so many logos I really don't have a specific favorite (or I'd be hard pressed to pick one without access to a huge book of logos which I do not have).

But there's an interresting little tid-bit that one Art instructor in college told me about the infamous Federal Express logo. Let's take a look at it first.
<img src="http://www.uspaacc.com/images/Fedex_logo.gif" alt=" - " />

I'll let someone try to guess the answer here. Besically there's a sort of visual "subliminal suggestion" within the logo itself. What is it? Ignore the word "express" also, typically this is not part of the logo.

First one to guess gets a cookie <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

One cookie to ironknee

That really amazed me when my intro to type instructor told the class that. All the years I'd looked at that logo and never even really noticed it <img border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" title="" src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" />

I even showed it off to people at my first job in pre-press who'd been working as artists for years and stumped them as-well

Apple's logo is, of course, outstanding. (the rainbow version maybe even better, since it's probably more well known and is more exuberant, if a little gaudy)

The Nike and Reebok logos I've always liked, and the Nintendo 64 logo was one I liked quite a bit too (the 3D N).

The slanted "E" (like in the Electra Entertainment example above) is so cliché already. Enron uses it, Dell used it also, and I think I've seen it used elsewhere too.

NBC (everyone knows what it is)
SUN (how they use the letters in the logo)
Apple (face it, simple, I like the white on black)
Netscape (yes, it's a good logo, everyone knows it and remembers it)
VAIO (pretty sleek looking, almost alien)
I always use protection when fscking my Mac... Do you?

<img src="http://www.celi.org/Northwest%20Airlines.gif" alt=" - " />

I like how the 'W' is formed by positive and negative space, and I like how the triangle that is the upper left end of the 'W' is pointing to what would be NW on a compass.

Apparently, the designer didn't even notice it until someone pointed it out to him on a passing truck. If it's true, it's a pretty cool little story. Very nice logo too!

I'd probably say the Chanel logo:
<img src="http://chanel.com/fb/images/fr/chanellogo.gif" alt=" - " />
It's classic, simple, and timeless. I suppose it also conjures up childhood memories of my mom sitting in her powder-room with Chanel products; it also reminds me my of how my dad would always come home with a Chanel product after being overseas...ah...memories...*sniff* .

It has a lovely Art Deco feel to it; I love classic logos designed from 1920 to 1970, which still look fabulous today. Classic design is the most beautiful.
