I'm trying to gather some cold hard facts and info about film imagesetters and R.I.P.'s for work. Preferably something that can also perform in-rip trapping effectively. My place of work is looking to make a major upgrade to include a Postscript Level 3 RIP. We've been using a Level 2 Harlequin R.I.P. and a Konika EV-Jetsetter 4500 Imagesetter.

I'm sort of "lost" where this sort of equipment goes (I know Macs pretty well, but not too "up" on imaging equipemnt, short of Desktop Printers). I've heard Scitex may have some soplutions specifically for In-RIP trapping and PS level 3, but it's tough to get any real info from thier site.

Just looking for some feedback here from someone a little more knowledgeable about such things as I am.

Thanks

Mike

from my own experience..

Scitex makes some great systems...I was running a Dolev 200 and 400 using PS/M and Full Auto Frames.
FAF was one of the best trapping programs I have used...handled everything I ever asked of it..

As far as Harlequin RIP's go, we used to use Easy trap, but it was worthless to us. From what I hear, the new version of easy trap is much better..

Depending on what your workflow is, it's hard to say which RIP will work better for you.
the RAMpage rip is an awesome rip as well, it has a ton of features that our shop would not use, no since is paying for features you wouldn't use.

I would call your local Dealers and talk with the reps. they can usually setup some tours of shops running their equipment...It will give you a chance to talk with the operators and see how the workflow works.
