This may be a basic step for most of you, however for me and the company I work for it's kind of new. I know how to feather a photograph in Photoshop, but I can't get away from having white behind my image when I place it into another program such as Quark and/or Illustrator. I did the Transparent step under the help menu, but that seems to ruin my feather. I must be missing something. Can anyone help me? I would greatly appreciate any information. THANKS

To date no layout apps recognize transparency in files except for 1-bit (black and white) tiffs and eps files. You have 2 possible solutions, ok 3.

1. Assemble the page in Photoshop with the transparency ans the like and then set the type in the layout app.

2. You can use a clipping path to create transparent areas around the image, but it's a hard edge. Think a picture in a odd shaped quark box.

3. Don't use feathered edged images.

Sorry if this quite what you were hoping for. The Photoshop solution is best. I don't recommend setting type in Photoshop except for Large Type 72+pt. It takes a little planning but it will work. I have to assemble 20 to 30 pages a week in Photoshop to have drop shadows and the like.

If you want to know more I'm on every evening and will be happy to answer any questions.
"This is fun, right?"
