As I can recall, Illustrator 5.5 and greater had a Pathfinder plug-in called "round corners" which would automatically create tangential curves of any specific radius out of a three-point path (corner). I could have been mistaken. It might have been a Vector Effects plug.

Anyway, back when FreeHand was 4.0 and Illustrator was 5.5, you could grab most Illustrator Plug-ins and stick them in your FreeHand Xtras folder, and use them within FreeHand.

I just tried this with FreeHand 9 and Illustrator 8 and it doesn't work!

Did FreeHand remove all support for Illustrator plug-ins?

Is there any way to get the "round corners" functionality within FreeHand? I know you can do it with rectangles, but I need to be able make round corners out of ALL angles and paths, not just rectangles.

Thanks,

tonton

I know the plug in... I assume it still should work for Freehand, but that doesn't really help you does it

Perhaps if you used AI 9 plugins for F 9 instead?

Okay, after poking around the FreeHand newsgroup, I have found out two things, one of which is the solution to my problem:

You can either use the "inset path" operation twice to achieve the desired affect, or, you can use the Illustrator 5.5 plug-in, but not the Illustrator 8 plug-in.

The other thing I learned is that Macromedia completely screwed up the pen tool in FreeHand 10 to make it more like Illustrator, but they screwed everything up by only doing it half-assed. The disappointment is double for all of us FreeHand supporters who actually PREFER the way the old FreeHand pen tool works to the Illustrator pen. So it doesn't look like I'll be upgrading to FreeHand 10 at all until they restore the original pen tool functionality, OS X or not.

Way to go Macromedia . Go ahead and alienate your entire installed base .

And to think... I was thinking of actually BUYING the product .
