Hi,
I've been trying to create a Type 1 font with Fontographer with limited success. Here's what I ultimately want to do:
1. Take an existing Type 1 font;
2. Yank unused characters, replaced them with custom (Central European) characters;
3. Save the result as a Type 1 font with the exact same metrics and settings as the original.
Sounded easy to me. Here's what I did:
1. Open the font in Fontographer with the preferences set to preserve original encoding;
2. Change the font's name;
3. Import metrics and bitmap data from the original font's bitmap;
4. Delete unused characters, paste new ones;
5. Generate the font file using the following settings:
- Original encoding (Adobe Standard)
- Type 1 Postscript
- Save Bitmap
I was unsure about both ID fields, so I let them as is.
Now the generated font has two major problems: the line height has changed, and more importantly, the characters are not layed out the same way in PopChar (some are replaced with boxes, some simply changed positions). Which also means that some keystrokes do not produce the same character as the original font, which is problematic.
Has anyone encountered a similar problem? I'm quite sure that I'm doing something wrong, but I can't seem to find exactly what. I tried several generation settings to no avail.
Any help greatly appreciated, ideally on or before June 14th (that's tomorrow...). Thanks in advance!
