I just stated using Pagemaker to create an application form for my business. I wanted to know how to make an underline aftera sentence. In other words I want to have a statment and than have a line right after that for the person to fill in. For example, I would have "Numbers of Hours Worked:", so I would want an underlined space for them to fill it in

More Examples:

Starting Wage:
Previous Employeer:

I would like to created lines or underlines after these questions. I tried make more spaces with the spacebar, and then trying to underlines the blank spacing, but it doesn't work. Can anyone offer advice? Thanks!

I don't remember, does PageMaker allow your to set tabs with fill characters? If so you could set a tab at the point where you want the line to end and use an underscore ("_") as your fill character. For that matter, you could just type underscores after your statements!

Yeah, Pagemaker has the tab fill feature. Goto TEXT : INDENTS/TABS and set your fill to the underscore one ______ and then set the length of your tab.

# The tab method will only work if there is a character after the tab.

Employer:________________[TAB][character]

The character, of course, could be a space.

# The second method is simply using the line tool (while holding [SHIFT] to make it orthogonal) or the constrained line tool (doesn’t need [SHIFT]). Then set the line weight to hairline [Element/Stroke].
-OR- I’d suggest changing the tint of the line to a lighter gray (~70%).

# And back to the tab method, I’d suggest changing the tint of the line to a lighter gray (~70%). But to do this;
  • Add a space before the [TAB].

    Employer:[SPACE]_________[TAB][SPACE]
  • Highlight the first space, the tab, and the last space.
  • Then change the tint to ~70% using the colour-palette [Window/Show Colour].

Have fun
