Press Release! http://www.aliaswavefront.com/en/Wha...mac/mac.shtml#

Announcement on their site! http://www.aliaswavefront.com/en/Wha.../mac/mac.shtml

Whoo Hoo! This is amazing 3D software. Look at just about all the special effects movies today and they likely used Maya for some of it, if not all of it!

Is anyone else ecstatic to see this groundbreaking 3D software coming to Mac? Under OSX this could easily replace some lower end graphic workstations and still allow the renderfarms to be linux, irix or whatever.

Chance for additional marketshare with OSX! OSX is a breakthrough in what I see as ease of use and computing. The more great software we see running, the better. Vive la Macintosh!

I think it's exciting bluedog, I'll give ya some attention.

Never used Maya myself. Harder or easier to use than Lightwave (which I've only used twice)? I haven't touched 3D much since the days when Infini-D was just about the only 3D app available for the mac. Scary huh.

But it'll help entrench the mac as a multimedia powerhouse. Lots of places are switching to G4/Final Cut Pro stations, and if they add Maya to the mix, all the better. Of course, they'll need an X version of FCP too (fingers crossed on getting it before March 2002).

Yeah, I've extensively looked into the offerings for 3D on the macintosh and this is the best (albeit most expensive) option around.

I really like Cinema4D, and Lightwave has intrigued me. But its interface seems more cluttered and I haven't seen it apparent on how to customize it. Probably because I never gave it enough attention.

Do they know something we don't?
They have a promotional pack in which they are giving away a voucher for a wacom tablet. How much use will that be with Maya without an OSX driver?

yes, wacom has announced upcoming drivers. You can get beta drivers with limited functionality in the online download of a software beta. I can't remember the package, but you can do a search of the archive here with OSX for wacom drivers on the peripherals or the OSX forums to find it.

Soon enough (I guess with the 10.1 release) that wacom will release for download or have it installed with the update! (Its my own guess and NOT at ALL substantiated)

I'm surprised that everyone has overlooked Maya Paint Effects for After Effects. A plugin suite that lets you run maya level effects on video. This seems like a much more appropriate piece of software for the macs video-centricness.
creative mac has the down low

I think the market of Mac users are heavily weighted in the print and 2D print and multimedia.

At least in these forums, it seems so. As cool as 3d and video/effects is there are fewer people who actually use it for a living on these forums. IMHO, there is a great opportunity to gather additional marketshare by demonstrating these products to mac users and aggressively pricing it for the small in-house developers who are using Macintosh for their work.
