Hey all. I'm having a problem with Photoshop 6 in classic. If I download any pics from my nikon 880, I am not able to drag and drop to open in Photoshop. I can only open the using File>open. This happens even if I change the Get Info>Open with application>Photoshop and try to double click to open. It will bring Photoshop to the front but will not open the file. Anyone else see this? It kinda sucks having to File>Open every file I want to open as you can imagine. Any help would be great.

I think there might be an app out for OS X that let's open things via a contextual menu, like Open With...
At least, I hope there is one out like that. Otherwise, I would say you should try to find a Photoshop X beta.

Need to say one more thing. The icons for the pictures are generic document icons and not quicktime or photoshop icons. This seems to be the problem since I can "drag to open" a quicktime icon to open. This seems to be the root of the problem. Why is it the at pics imported with a digital camera don't have any translation built into them. And like I said, even if I go to Get Info>Open with Application and change to quicktime or photoshop, the icon does not change.

FWIW, I can't drag and drop into Photoshop 5.5 while in X either. Nor can I double click a photoshop file to open it in PS. And worst of all, I can't use any of the Batch features of Photoshop while in X. The only way I can open a file in PS is to switch to PS, and use the Open menu... for each file.
Needless to say, I still do all my work from 9.

Ok..I know this works for me...mileage may vary... if you wanna drag files on to the app just hold down command and option while dragging to Photoshop...This has worked fine for me with both jpg and tif files...it apparently forces any application to try and open whatever file you drag whilst holding those keys...hope this helps.

I think this was fixed with either one of the system 9 updates or System X updates..
are you on 10.1.2? and 9.2.2?

I've got DragThing and dropping files on the Photoshop icon in the floating application switcher (called the proccess dock in Drag Thing) works great for me.
I do sometimes have the prob where double cicking a .jpg will bring Photoshop to the front, but not open the file.

Yup, I'm running 10.1.2 and 9.2.2. and like what happens to chrisv, it just brings PS to the front. I'll try lcthys's tip with "alias maker" keys. It still wont allow me to batch though... c'mon Adobe! Pick up the pace. Corel is starting to look really good.

You need an app (like change creator_ that changes the type (or creator), not just the info

X doesn't seem to like changing its icons immediately. But rest assured, if you change the creator, they *will* be changed on your next restart (if your desktop is clean and uncorrupted and all other icons are showing up right)
