i like the old one better.

i'll give some more constructive feedback tomorrow. too late right now. the new concept doesn't really have enough to go on though, perhaps an illustratorized sketch would be more effective?

Hmm... I'll try The first one focused on web design around the area here and to get myself promoted. After looking at it, I decided that I can do more than web design, like create custom logos and the like. That's when I decided to focus on displaying some work that I have done, like desktop patterns, custom icons and such. Plus I decided to expand a bit and have a friend help out so that we both can establish a resume online. Its not the greatest design i'll admit, but its a preliminary one so I am always up for suggestions and that.

Tim: I went to town a little on your resume, so sorry, but it looks like you're just outta high school and they didn't give you much help making a resume. Pretty good actually, no typos really, but needs some polishing...

They are both pretty simple web designs, and both have merits. I like the logo on the first, but if you are promoting web design, the more complicated layout of the second is better advertising and shows more skill. I say complicated, that doesn't mean unreadable, it means complex and something that joe idiot couldn't do in frontpage.

I think you need more portfolio work up and you need to adjust your resume. After reading it, I had two comments: Is this a design resume? If it's going to be so plain, better off making an html resume. Why bother making them launch acrobat when it's so plain. Most designers use their resume as a built-in sample of design skills, doesn't mean it has to be wacked out and unreadable, but use some typography, some graphic elements to create a look and feel for yourself. That would justify a PDF and make a reader feel that they'd learned something about your style.

Put in a real objective. Don't make the employer do the work of figuring out what you're qualified for, that's your job. You can change this section for which jobs you apply for and make it look like you want whatever you're applying for. "I want a satisfying job in a Mac environment where I can grow as a graphic designer and learn from my teammates..." That kind of bullsh!t.

From reading your qualifications, I'd say you are qualified for Mac support, IT, etc, but there's little in there about design. Mention actual design sofware first--photoshop, illustrator, quark, pagemaker... You do know quark or pagemaker, right? If you are a web designer, what apps are you using for layout? If it's bbedit or dreamweaver, whatever, just put it down! Software is more important than listing mac models. Office is not important for design jobs. (I'd still put it, but at the bottom of the list.) If you haven't had a real design job yet, what exposure have you had? College job, freelance, pre-press, high school yearbook, what? If you don't have real exposure, gotta mention that you are self-taught. If you have the portfolio to back it up, employers will be impressed by your initiative and ability to think for yourself. If you don't have anything backing it up, well...

If you're not in the top 5% of high school, don't bother putting it. 50% could make you a C average student, and isn't good advertising.

Be more succinct and professional. "making sure everyone was happy" is better put as "ensuring customer satisfaction." "People who forgot things on their applications" is better as "interact with customers to get vital information logged in the system." Work it.

A resume should be all on one page. If necessary, references and portfolio can be on the next, but again, make it simple for your reader.

Don't put family members as references. Not cool. Landlords, roommates, maybe, but not family members. Especially ones with same last name...

holy crap that is so bad...I uploaded the wrong damn resume and didn't even bother to check it...Luckily its not being promoted yet so I'm not too worried about it. Thanks though, that is very helpful info and I'm glad you took the time to point out my faults. Thanks!

In your work section, which I suppose is being used to depict peices you will hope get you hired, a desktop picture of Mandy Moore is not a good idea. Even though she is hot, it gives your reader a "oh this must be a kid" sense. The goal of a self promotion site such as this is to have someone go, "Whoa, this guy must be REALLY good, look at what he can do!" Then if you ARE young, to surprise them when you show up for an interview cause they were expecting someone older.

BTW, IMHO is there any way you can strive for a bachelors in Graphic Design or Illustration? A degree in simply Web Design is about as important in the creative feild as a degree in French Poetry. Just a thought.

Edit:

1) *please bear with me as this is under construction*

Major no no on web design here, EVERYTHING is always under construction and it is redundant to tell your reader this.

2) some images on this site © apple computer, inc.

If possible, create your own images for navigation. It does no good to say I am a web designer, and I am good in photoshop and illustrator if you have to borrow artwork from a corperate web site to complete your design.

Also, being picky on web rules...

<font size="1"face="Geneva, Verdana, Arial">code:

<a href="about.html" target="_blank" title="about indigo illusions">about</a> [/code]

Should be more like:

<font size="1"face="Geneva, Verdana, Arial">code:

<a href="about.html" title="about indigo illusions">about</a> [/code]

Take out the target you're not using Frames so you don't need it. People don't like to be directed to a new open window when they click an internal link. It is okay when it is an external link but when it directs to a new page on your site it should be in the same window.
